I'm going to type this out or maybe call you another time about this.

I know you and mom want someone to take care of the family business. What does that look like to you? Are you expecting someone to move back to Taiwan? travel back and forth? managing from afar?

I'm trying to get a more realistic picture because you never told us what exactly you are looking for. If you don't explain anything, I will never know.

I have been looking at your email and trying to see how I could reply.  After several days, I turned to Lawrence for help, and he did the following summarizations:

We can have a couple aspects to look at our family business and it really depends on how you guys would like to be involved.

  1. Keep and maintain the business as usual.

In this case, it will not be a full time job at this moment.

Our family business is quite stable at this moment. And I believe that 阿秀 and her team can take care of the routine well.  However, you guys need to think about how you can manage in the future. I mean when I am not capable to handle it.

  1. Aggressively

Build up your own relationship and knowledge here locally. Create more business out of current model even by leveraging our own house or 科宅。and eventually turn out to be a active business that require your full time dedication.

If this is the idea you like, you might consider moving back to Taiwan, find a job here and start to build up your connections and knowledge. In the meantime, work out your idea and realize it.

A wild idea would be : apply for a job at TSMC in Phoenix Arizona or at Micron in Boise Idaho. And ask to be transferred to Taiwan after working a couple years. Then, you could have a full time job in Taiwan and also have a chance to understand our business and know the team here.

The above is what he thinks we should consider.  But I don't like to ask you what you should do, rather than what I could do to help what you like to do.  After all, you are just starting to develop your own career. You are the future and I am the past.

Now, mom is away and it might happen to me as well.  Yes, let's  talk and plan ahead before it is too late.

Did you remember when you passed the CPA exams and came back to Taiwan for a few days with us and the following conversation did happen.

"Go to Boise, apply a job at Micron. Work there for a couple of years and ask internal transfer back to Taiwan. Then you will be paid well and can live and take care of us." You laughed at me, "What is Boise? "鳥不生蛋，狗不拉屎"

If it were now, I would say, "Go to Phoenix, apply a job at TSMC(台積電). Work there for couple of years and ask internal transfer back to Taiwan.

Mom used to talk about buying a house in Taipei, thinking when you came back to work, the most likely it will be In Taipei.

Back in 2023, mom did ask me to let you work at 玉雪、but I said it might be better for you to do what you like and develop your own career and relationships and when time comes .... Working at 玉雪 now is not a full time job for young. You will miss the chance to do what you like and missed the chances of gathering up relationship and good wills. "Relationships and good wills " are the most important things in your career to have. We will benefit from it as long as you live.
