Developed by the National Marine Electronics Association (NMEA), the NMEA 2000 protocol is the industry-standard communications protocol that allows devices from different brands to share information. Built on a robust terminated backbone design, NMEA 2000 is a Control Area Network (CAN-Bus) that supports serial data communications with data rates up to 250 kbps. NMEA 2000 carries alpha-numeric information like GPS/GNSS position, compass heading, depth, speed, wind, AIS targets, waypoint information, engine data, battery, and more. All Raymarine Axiom series chartplotters displays are NMEA 2000 certified.

SeaTalk NG is Raymarine's cabling system used to carry NMEA 2000 data. SeaTalk NG cabling offers several benefits when networking Raymarine instruments and autopilots.
